Fingal Sports Office present Bicycles to St. Michael’s House for Learn to Cycle programme

Fingal Sports Office presents St. Michaels House Skerries with bicycles for their students to take part in Cycling Ireland’s Learn to Cycle programme.

Fingal Sports Office were delighted to present St. Michaels House in Skerries with the first of the adapted bicycles they have purchased through the Dormant Accounts Fund. The bicycles are specially designed for people with a disability and will be used by students at the school to take part in programmes such as Cycling Ireland’s Learn to Cycle programme. The Bicycles were presented to the school on Wednesday 18th November by Sports Inclusion Disability Officer David Daly.

Mayor of Fingal Cllr David Healy said: “I am very pleased to see Fingal Sports Office using the Dormant Accounts Funds for such a hugely worthwhile project.

"It will be wonderful for the students to be able to take part in a sporting activity by learning to cycle on these specially designed bicycles.”

Fingal County Council Director of Service for Housing and Community Development, Margaret Geraghty said: “Fingal were delighted to be able to present St. Michaels House with the specialized bicycles to take part in the Learn to Cycle programme.

"We work closely with a number of disability groups around the county to ensure the physical activity needs of some of the most vulnerable members of the community are catered for."

Learn to Cycle is a 6 week programme that aims to assist participants with additional needs to learn to cycle independently in a fun and safe environment. Sports Inclusion Disability officer David Daly said: “The Learn to Cycle programme has shown to be a truly beneficial and enjoyable activity for all involved.

"I can see the children becoming more involved each day as their confidence grows and as every lesson offers new and interesting learning opportunities in a different and fun way for the students.”
