Fingal Sports Office was delighted to participate in the Safer Together Summer Festival in Millennium Park, Blanchardstown, on Saturday, June 8th. This highly anticipated event provided a day filled with excitement, entertainment, and educational activities designed to promote community safety and unity.
The Safer Together Summer Festival went beyond providing entertainment. It served as an opportunity for residents to come together, foster community spirit, and learn about essential safety practices. The event succeeded in building stronger connections among neighbours and provided a platform for discussing important issues related to safety and community health.
Phillip Jennings, Safer Blanchardstown organiser, said, “We were thrilled to host the Safer Together Summer Festival once again. This event is a testament to our commitment to creating a safer, more connected community. We were delighted to see so many families join us for a day of fun, learning, and camaraderie.”
In addition to having an information stand, the Sports Office facilitated a mini football blitz for local clubs, a 3x3 basketball competition, and parkour demonstrations. With the assistance of the local FCC/FAI development officer, teams from Corduff FC, Castleknock FC, Clonee United, Hartstown Huntsown FC and St Mochta’s FC participated in the under-7 mini football blitz. For some of the teams, it was their first time playing organised matches, and the enjoyment was contagious.
The 3x3 Basketball Ireland competition brought teams from all over Fingal to compete in the U14 boys', U14 girls', and senior men's categories. The talent on show was top-class, and the competition was fierce. Members of the local Garda Siochana even got in on the action and had a go at trying to sink some three-pointers!
Dublin has an active parkour community with several spots, including Millennium Park, and groups dedicated to the discipline. Parkour, also known as freerunning, involves navigating through urban environments using movements like running, jumping, climbing, and flipping. Dublin Parkour came along for the day to demonstrate their acrobatic skills. They amazed festivalgoers with jumps, flips and tricks. Dublin Parkour will be back with us at the Flavours of Fingal Festival Newbridge House Donabate on June 29th & 30th along with plenty of other activities for all the family. Make sure to come and see us in the Active Travel and Sport paddock.
