Fingal’s latest report shows gender pay gap has narrowed

Fingal County Council has today published its Gender Pay Gap Report, highlighting the percentage difference between what men and women are paid on average in the organisation, irrespective of roles or levels.

Fingal County Council has today published its Gender Pay Gap Report, highlighting the percentage difference between what men and women are paid on average in the organisation, irrespective of roles or levels.

The 2023 report shows that the gender breakdown of Fingal County Council staff is 53% male and 47% female. The Mean Gender Pay Gap shows that on average, males are paid 1.65% more than females, while the Median Gender Pay Gap shows that the median rate of pay for females is 9.31% higher than the median rate of pay for males.

This is an improvement on 2022 when the Mean Gender Pay Gap was 4.58% and the Median Gender Pay Gap was 1.98%. The ratio of males and females has also narrowed as the number of males in 2022 was 55% and the number of females 45%.

The Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, AnnMarie Farrelly, said: “Our 2023 Gender Pay Gap Report shows an improvement on 2022 with a reduction in the mean figure to 1.65% from 4.58%, while the median figure of pay for females is now 9.31% higher than male pay.  It indicates that Fingal County Council is a place where all employees have the same opportunities for recognition and career development and are treated fairly and equitably at work.

“Six of the 11 members of our Executive Management Team are female, and we are committed to addressing workplace barriers to equality and creating an open and inclusive workplace community. Many equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives and supports are already in place, and we will continue our work in this area.”

Employers with more than 250 employees in Ireland are required to publish their gender pay gap data before the end of 2023 and within six months of their reference date. Fingal County Council and all local authorities in the country chose 30th June 2023 as the reference date.
