New councillors co-opted to Fingal County Council

Two new councillors were officially co-opted onto Fingal County Council this evening following the election of sitting councillors to Dáil Éireann in the recent General Election.

Cllr John Smyth was nominated by Sinn Féin to fill vacancy caused by the election of Deputy Ann Graves in the Fingal East constituency. He was proposed by Cllr Angela Donnelly and seconded by Cllr Malachy Quinn. Cllr Smith, who is a senior clinical psychologist, will represent the Swords Local Electoral Area.

Cllr Kevin Humphreys was nominated by Labour to fill the vacancy caused by the election of Deputy Robert O’Donoghue in the Fingal West constituency. He was proposed by Cllr John Walsh and seconded by Cllr Mary McCamley. Cllr Humphreys will represent the Rush-Lusk Local Electoral Area. He is a former Minister of State, TD, and Senator and was also elected three times to Dublin City Council. His son James is a councillor in the Swords Local Electoral Area.

The filling of the vacancy caused by the election of Deputy Ruth Coppinger to Dáil Éireann was deferred to another date.
