Waterways Ireland opened a public consultation for their Heritage & Biodiversity Plan, on the 24th June inviting members of the public to help shape the future of Ireland’s waterways. The Public consultation is continuing until the 4th October 2024

This is the Second Waterways Ireland Heritage and Biodiversity Plan and it aims to:

  1. Prioritise the conservation, protection and promotion of natural, built and cultural heritage along our shared waterways, including safeguarding the ecosystems that are home to a diverse range of flora and fauna.
  2. Support community engagement and education in conservation initiatives to raise awareness about heritage and foster a sense of stewardship and encourage sustainable practices.
  3. Maintain and develop partnerships and collaborations with stakeholders.
  4. Carry out research to support understanding of biodiversity and heritage sites.
