Water FAQs
Irish Water (IW) took over the responsibility for the operation of public water services, including water treatment and supply and the provision of waste water (foul sewer) services to homes and businesses from the 1st January 2014.
Local Authorities continue to provide water services on behalf of IW in accordance with a 12-year Service Level Agreement (SLA), agreed protocols and a detailed Annual Service Plan (ASP) which links operational activities to budgets.
Fingal County Council have responsibility for:
- New Surface Water Connections
- Ensuring that Private Regulated Water Suppliers are registered, and are producing water that is wholesome and clean and meets the requirements of these 2014 Drinking Water Regulations.
- Providing owners and users of unregulated private water supplies with information about the risks of contamination and with advice about what they can do to protect and keep their supplies safe.
- Lead Pipe Replacement Grants and Well Grants
- Applications for Discharge to Surface Water and Discharge to Ground Water
- River and Lake Water Quality Monitoring
- Flooding (except from sewage problems)
